About SortMyClass
SortMyClass is a free classroom group generator: paste your class list, choose how you want it split, and deal fair random groups with a little theatre — ready to present on a projector or interactive whiteboard.
It exists because sorting a class into groups is one of those small jobs that quietly eats lesson time. Reading names off a list feels arbitrary, letting students choose leaves the same people out, and most online tools want an account, a subscription, or your students' personal data before they'll shuffle a few names.
The rules this site is built on
- Student names never leave your device. Your class lists are stored in your own browser (localStorage) and are never uploaded anywhere. There is no server that could see them.
- No accounts, ever. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to remember, nothing to cancel.
- It has to work on school hardware. Old laptops, slow wifi, interactive whiteboards — the whole tool is a single lightweight page that keeps working offline once it has loaded.
How it's funded
SortMyClass is free to use. To cover its costs it may show a small number of ads on the setup screen and on articles — never in presentation mode, and never based on anything you type into the tool. See the privacy page for the plain-English details.
Contact
There's no support team behind SortMyClass — no accounts, nothing stored on servers, so there's genuinely nothing to reset, recover, or unlock. But if you've found a bug or have an idea from your classroom, write to hello@sortmyclass.com — it gets read, though replies can take a while.
